Dear Friends of Viva! 
Sunday, July 16th is National Ice Cream Day - the
perfect opportunity to show consumers the delights of
dairy-free ice cream. Viva! is teaming up with Soy
Delicious – producers of mouth-watering flavors such
as Mocha Almond Fudge, Cookies & Cream, and Mango
Raspberry – and we need your help to show everyone how
yummy these cruelty-free desserts are! 

Can you spare a couple of hours on National Ice Cream
Day to join in with a fun, national event? Organize a
free ice cream give-away in your area and persuade the
public to dump dairy and sample soy instead!

According to the International Ice Cream Association,
about 9% of all the milk produced by U.S. dairy
farmers is used for ice cream, in its words:
"contributing significantly to the economic well-being
of the nation's dairy industry."

Dairy cows' lives are short, exhausting, and filled
with discomfort and distress. Forced to produce a calf
every year in order to keep up milk production, the
babies are torn away, sometimes when only a few hours
old, so that the milk meant for them can be bottled up
for humans. Mother cows will bellow for days at the
loss of their young. Relentless milking makes them
tired, always hungry, and susceptible to mastitis,
which can cause pus to weep from their infected teats.
Their babies' future is also bleak. Male calves will
likely end up in veal crates, chained by the neck to
prevent movement and slaughtered at around 6 months of
age for their pale flesh. Female calves will be forced
into a life of misery producing milk for humans.
