Hello,

Today's Toronto Star features a letter to the editor from a woman in Colorado. Encouraging! She says, among other things, that Danny Williams (was) "a sorry and unconvincing representative for his side and he made Newfoundland (and Canada) look bad".

End seal hunt sooner than later

  Paul versus the premier

---------------------------------
  March 4.
Newfoundland Premier Danny WIlliams's embarassing performance Friday night on Larry King Live did nothing to advance the cause for Newfoundland's seal hunt. Paul and Heather McCartney are correct in stating that the hunt is very damaging to Canada's international reputation.
To stubbornly refuse to even consider alternatives available to the seal hunters to replace the relatively small amount of $15 million to $20 million in income is doing a disservice to both the province and the country.
His arguments were weak, he was generally a sorry and unconvincing representative for his side and he made Newfoundland (and Canada) look bad.
The seal hunt should be ended, sooner rather than later.

  hey guys
i did read the article and was absolutely enraged. I plan on writing a
letter to the editing rebutting many of his ridiculous points. he
completely misses the point of many animal activists' problems with the
seal hunt. i can't speak for everyone but i think one of the main
points is that we simply dont' have the right to exploit seals like
this! humans decided that we did but that is out of our own pure
selfishness. to quote alice walker, animals exist for their own
reasons. and it seemed he suggested that the only issue mccartney was
attacking was the seal hunt. as we all know, he is an avid animal
activist and speaks out against many causes, including factory farming
and fur farms. the columnist then goes on to say that if people listen
to mccartney then all places that exploit animals and kill them for our
selfish use should be shut down. um well yeah! because who gave us the
right to torture them for our pathetic reasons? and don't even get me
started about that ridiculous suggestion that without animals, how on
earth could the children possible develop normally? disgusting, a truly
disgusting article you can bet i'm going to respond to! i encourage
others!

form letter... full of lies! incredible how this editor gets the last
say of the McCartney's visit/whole issue and is allowed to print
rubbish like that.. oped at ott.sunpub.com ...if you want to send in your
comments not that they'll be printed of course...I thought that at
least the Larry King debate sounded more in our favour...unless people
take the chicken, beef and 'milk for children' analogy seriously...just
curious of what others thought of the debate?
