Hello to OAA members and members of local networking groups,
Thanks again to those who participated in and donated towards the cost of props for the sucessful Shrine Circus protest in August. A-Channel gave us brief but positive coverage and CJOH acknowleged that exotic animal acts were a 'raging debate' and an issue that was not going away. I have also learned from ZOOCHECK CANADA that the Shrine Circus will no longer be using exotic cats. This is mainly due to pressure for animal rights from animal protection organizations and activists like you!
Turning to factory farming, for those who haven't heard, Farm Sanctuary will be holding a WALKATHON for factory farmed animals on: Saturday October 7th on Parliament Hill.
Hopefully many people will be able to attend this event and also spread the word to others. It takes place on a Saturday and they have allowed for lots of notice. For all the details on the event and how to start a pledge form, please refer to the OAA web site at: http://www.ottawa-animal-advocates.org under the EVENTS page.
We are also hoping to get the input of anyone interested in participating in actions related to the upcoming fur season. As with past years, there will be several opportunities for fur protests as well as leafletting- possibly against the retail store Tristan and America again. I should know more details soon.
Here are two possible meeting dates for a meeting to brainstorm ideas related to leafletting and media oriented protests for the upcoming fur season. Please let me know which date suits you best OR if either date is fine for you
and we will try to accomodate the majority. The tentative dates for a meeting @ THE GREEN DOOR Restaurant, 198 Main Street are:
1) Tuesday October 3rd
2) Thursday October 5th
(7:30pm for both dates)
And please don't forget about the WALKATHON for factory farmed animals on October 7th, details as per above.
Thanks!
Victoria
