A general Animal Rights meeting to discuss plans for possible anti-fur actions, a possible anti-seal hunt action and other topics of interest to activists will be held on>
Thursday October 5th @7:30pm
at The Green Door Restaurant, 198 Main Street.
Please bring your ideas for a theatrical or attention-grabbing fur or seal hunt protest that could be worthy of media attention. With the fur issue it could pertain to dog/cat fur likely/possibly being imported to Canadian clothing eg. fur 'Made in China', fur trim and/or fur in general. We would also hope to go around the table and hear everyone's feedback on these or other animal rights related interests/ideas.

NEWS:
The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) has launched a campaign to gather 10 million signatures to bring animal welfare to the United Nations as a global concern. Please visit http://www.animalsmatter.org/ to ad your signature.
Sea Shepherd reports an important victory for the anti-Canadian seal hunt cause. Of course it's hardly over yet but it's
quite encouraging. http://www.hsus.org/marine_mammals/marine_mammals_news/eu_seal_ban.html for details.
FARM SANCTUARY'S WALKATHON to Parliament Hill is on Saturday October 7th and they are seeking your support to show media that there IS concern about the factory farming issue. It should be a good time with many farm animal
costumes and a very good opportuntity for public outreach http://www.ottawa-animal-advocates.org /EVENTS page for
contacts and details.

Volunteer Needed: A " Mystery Shopper" is needed to determine which stores in the Rideau Centre are selling animal fur garments/accessories. So far I have seen much less real fur in stores in the suburbs but I'm not sure about downtown so it would be very helpful if someone who lives closer to downtown, goes to school downtown or who frequents the Rideau Centre, could give a head's up on which stores have the fur. The volunteer would need to be thorough in making sure that fur is real and whether any labels on fur garments are labeled "Made in China". Please let me know asap if you can be the mystery shopper. We would need to know which stores are selling real animal fur before the meeting on October 5th.
Bye for Now,
Victoria
