<DIV>Hi Everyone!<BR><BR>Hope you have all been having a good summer.
As some of you may <BR>know, the Shrine Circus is coming to town. The Shrine
circus uses live <BR>animals in their acts which is unacceptable. It is
completely <BR>unnecessary when circuses like Cirque du Soleil are so successful
<BR>without the exploitation of animals. Ottawa Animal Advocates and
<BR>Carleton University's Animal Rights Working group have organized a
<BR>demonstration to educate circus goers about the miseries these animals
<BR>face every day and to hopefully gain some media representation of
this </DIV>
<DIV>cruel form of animal abuse.</DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT><BR><FONT face=Arial>A Shrine</FONT> Circus

<DIV>(St. Laurent Boulevard near Ogilvie Road) near the circus tent. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>We're still trying to establish an 'exact' location because the circus has
never </DIV>
<DIV>been held in this parking lot before...but street theatre
performers> a baby 'elephant'</DIV>
<DIV>and an angry 'Shriner' will be on site near the circus tent and hard
to miss! We will also</DIV>
<DIV>attempt to post one more notice if we end up being able to obtain an
exact location from the</DIV>
<DIV>mall. Otherwise you shouldn't have any trouble spotting the activist
performers.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>We only have a minimal number of definate confirmations of people planning
to attend </DIV>
<DIV>so we and of course the abused animals could really use your participation
for the hour.</DIV>
<DIV>Please note that the protest will go ahead even if it looks like rain....We
hope that people will</DIV>
<DIV>make the effort to come out and if it is raining at 6:15pm we will evaluate
the situation. We</DIV>
<DIV>do have plastic covers for signs and bad weather actually contributed to
media coming out</DIV>
<DIV>to cover us at Ringling Brothers circus two years ago!</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3><FONT
face=Arial size=2>Please also note</FONT> that</FONT> </FONT>donations would be
greatly appreciated if possible as the cost of costumes </DIV>
<DIV>and other props for this demo is expected to average around 80$.
All signs and literature will </DIV>
<DIV>be provided. Please just bring yourself and others you know who may
also care about the sad </DIV>
<DIV>situation of exotic animals used for human entertainment. The animals
need all the support we can</DIV>
<DIV>give them.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>See you there!<BR>Victoria and Meredith</DIV>

<DIV>******************************************************************************</DIV>
<DIV>Animals weren't made for our entertainment. They spend the majority of
<BR>every day confined to a small cage in shackles and are forced to <BR>perform
ridiculous acts under threat of physical punishment, including <BR>whips and
bullhooks. They eat, sleep, urinate and defecate in the same <BR>small cages and
are only exercised for a few minutes each day within <BR>the confines of their
routine. There are no laws in place to protect <BR>the plight of circus animals
in Canada and the Shrine Circus avoids <BR>inspections and regulations by not
owning any of the animals in their <BR>acts. Instead, they rent from other
circuses, allowing the animals to <BR>suffer with care that is far below
standard. Shrine Circuses have been <BR>found to offer little veterinary care,
little access to nutritious food <BR>and clean water and inadequate housing as
well as documented cases of <BR>abuse and mishandling. Shrine Circuses will not
allow any outsiders to <BR>see the living conditions of the animals or how they
are transported. <BR></DIV>
