I was downtown today and was able to track down the location of Karma
Wear. I stopped by and had a very interesting conversation with one of
the co-owners. Lots of interesting stuff and nice fashionable clothes.

Here's the website. There is not a whole lot of information up there
yet but maybe one day. Anyway, given that it is a brick and mortar
store I recommend that you go on down and take a look.

I've always despised those frozen concentrate juice containers.... when you took the metal end off then little bits of the rim would crumble into the juice, so I would always wipe around the rim with a paper towel (and a bunch more junk would come on the paper towel- rather than into my juice)... and then fish out any little pieces that fell into the concentrate. HATED it. Plus the container had to be thrown into the trash... well, I would recycle the one loose metal end. I've said for a while (like everytime I had to fiddle with those dumb containers) that it couldn't be that hard for those companies to change their packaging to something else not so annoying! 
Well, McCains has been the one to take the leap.... I found these at the grocery store: http://www.tetrapak.ca/newsItem.asp?NewsID=131 . The container can be recycled, and its 225ml makes 1.58 (whereas the other ones are 355ml makes 1.42ml) and it's SUPER easy to open.... and as well as being smaller, their square shape also takes up less room in transportation, right?! =0D Now that  McCains has done it, I expect other companies to follow....

Hey guys, SimplyRaw(Ottawa) is getting a pamphlet/booklet printed with veg 
places in Ottawa, check out the email below and see if anything is 
missing.... as he has said he is going to stick to food-related businesses 
(oh, I just thought of another one... Bridgehead for fair trade, organic... 
some vegan stuff/soy/dark choc/vegan flav syrups etc.... ) I tried to dig 
through my website info (already on the net, and in my "to update" folder) 
to find out ones he might be missing....

hmm... maybe if you send them to me, then I'll compile them and forward them 
out to you and Mark after. You have til Monday to reply I guess. I always 
see SimplyRaw stuff (ads/pamphlets) around everywhere, so it will be good 
publicity/Guide for people who don't normally access the internet and look 
up such info on like..

Canada plans cuts to climate programs and backs further away from Kyoto

Canadian Enviros are unhappy with the new Conservative government's reported
plans to slash funding for programs to fight climate change, despite a
recent federal review that found most such programs to be cost-effective. On
Wednesday, top environmental leaders in the country called on opposition
parties to defeat the Conservatives if they back out of trying to meet
emissions limits under the Kyoto Protocol. The government has indicated that
it will not pull out of Kyoto entirely, but will abandon efforts to comply
with emissions targets in favor of its own "made-in-Canada" greenhouse-gas
reduction plan. Also yesterday, a federal scientist who was to give a talk
about his new novel -- Hotter Than Hell, a futuristic depiction of Canada
and the U.S. at war over water in a world made hot by climate change -- was
warned by the environment minister's office not to speak. Wouldn't be
polite, they said.

Hey guys, 

I'm putting up an Ottawa Veg table at the EcoFair this Saturday. I could use the help of one or two people on the actual day. Please let me know if you would be interested. 

I'm planning John Robbins "Diet for a New America" on VHS playing continually.

A display of different veg food (empty boxes etc.)... mostly on dairy and meat alternatives, so that people can see they don't have to give up "hamburgers"(etc) when becoming veg*n.  (and just an idea of all the alternatives available out there)

I've also been thinking of a water and/or grain display... with containers showing how much water/grain an omni meal requires... vs. vegetarian vs vegan. (with a quote/s about the water crisis/world hunger)

I plan of having Veggie Kits available for taking, and also some pamphlets if I get around to completing them. I may also make some signs with Famous people veg quotes... and I have a stack of John Robbins books from the library so I may get some material from there, as well as just so people can browse - and know they can borrow it from the library.
Also..... some Ottawaveg.com cards maybe... 

If you have any suggestions, let me know.
Victoria of OAA and Meredith of Carleton U  OPIRG are going to have a table (probably right next to me) on factory farming.
