Do you think it would be possible to buy vegan work boots/shoes and have a 
steel toe made and inserted (maybe a shoe repair place would have steel 
toes? I have no idea if it's possible....

within Ottawa, I don't know... basically the cheapest stores are most likely 
to not have leather... but you may want to phone around to them about steel 
toes before making the trip.
