Back at home I googled him to see what kind of business website he had, and I found out that he came from a family of 21 kids, 19 of whom were adopted from around the world. From further investigation I found out that his parents have a charity called Child Haven, which is run following Ghandian ideals: No Recognition of Caste, Equality of the Sexes, Non-Violence, Vegetarian Meals, Respect for Cultural/Religious Background, and Simple Living. They also have a SoyaCow project which creates work and income for woman, and feeds the children cheaply. The technology was developed here in Ottawa. (http://www.childhaven.ca/soyacow.htm) Now, the point of this email is to tell you about an upcoming fundraiser for Child Haven called "Evening Fest" All proceeds from this year's event go towards the care of orphaned children left behind by recent natural and manmade disasters and who are now living in homes run by Child Haven. Tickets: $60 ($30 tax receiptable). Buffet-style food will be served all evening, offering a fusion of exquisitely prepared vegetarian dishes provided by Cafe Shafali. In keeping with Child Haven's Gandhian philosophy, vegetarian food will be served (vegan food as well). Location: The Hellenic Banquet Centre, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa. Tickets: $60 ($30 tax receiptable) Parking: Free parking is available at the Hellenic Banquet Center Date: Saturday, November 5th Time: 6:00pm - 12:00am. There will be a coat check available for $1.00, with proceeds going towards our cause. Dress to impress. Black Tie Optional. For more information please see http://eveningfest.com/ and http://www.childhaven.ca/ ______________________________________________________________________________ In case any of you would be interested, I picked up a flyer containing the following: The Ultimate Demonstration for a Pesticide Bylaw 12 noon, Wednesday October 26 at Ottawa City Hall. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <01d801c5db88$78fb2f90$6500a8c0@v> Join in!!! 1. So right after I post about EveningFest, I get emails from a handful of people like "I work with/went to school/church with the Cappuccinos. There will be several Ottawa Veg*ns there! 2. Vincent said that Herb and Spice on Bank has Vegan Gourmet Mozzarella, and Nacho (Thanks for the tip!). I went down today and bought a couple and they were 5.99. 3. I've spotted Noel Nog in the Glebe at Loeb. There was only one left in the fridge and I grabbed it of course. 4. This place kind of confuses me... But it has "vegan" all over it... Honey Flavor Powder (VEGAN) Coconut Powdered Flavor (VEGAN) Cheese Flavor Powder (VEGAN) etc, etc, etc Does anyone know anything about this place?? http://www.naturesflavors.com/ 5. There is a lot on the internet about soy estrogen (specifically phyto-estrogen), but there is not a lot said about estrogen in dairy milk. Anyone know where to find some stats? and how exactly cow estrogen works in a human body? I could only find these links really (for not): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=11601881 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=14729019 and there is a good article about soy here: http://www.foodrevolution.org/what_about_soy.htm 6. http://www.eathufu.com/home.asp Mock human flesh for cannibals. Suitable for vegans. Would make a great christmas present for someone special. This website is NOT a hoax! =0P 7. When I was at Independant on Bank, I saw that they had Earth Balance butter in stick form, in a box. First time I saw it not in a tub. 8. I used to want a microwave, just to pop popcorn... but now I've found out how easy it is to make popcorn on the stove by dumping a package of microwave popcorn in a LARGE saucepan... cover up on high, and keep shaking it around. Yeay. Nutritional yeast is a yummy and healthy topping.. but I was looking for Salt and Vinegar, and ketchup. I MAY have found it here... awaiting an email to confirm. http://www.spicebarn.com/salt_and_vinegar_popcorn_seasoning.htm -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
